I was on my last camping trip before the winters this year, being the knife enthusiast I am, I always thought and admired how the knives evolved but never dug deep into it. But this time, I was wondering how early humans mastered the art of tool making being technologically challenged. This inquisitiveness led me to start my research on the history of knives.
During this time I went through so many articles, different books etc. In one of the books, I came across cave paintings or pictographs taken from the caves of Europe. I found those attention-grabbing, storytelling data visualizations as the effective and engaging ways to share information. Especially in these times when the average human attention span is decreasing day by day. This brought me to the idea of sharing the history of knives in an infographic way.
I have tried to encapsulate the information about the evolution of knives from prehistoric times to the 20th century. It mainly focuses on the material used to make knives and knife handles and uses at different stages of evolution.
By the end of the 20th century and early 21st century, n number of knives have come into existence. For a single purpose, you have multiple knives available in the market. For example, for kitchen use, we have a lot of knives like Chef’s knives, Santoku knives, Carving knives, Bread knives, Utility knives, Boning knives, Paring knives, Steak knives, cleavers, Paring Knife etc
